Warm New England Apple Crisp

Dominique Collins-Bloomfield
Warm New England Apple Crisp is everything comforting and wonderful about Fall. Cinnamon, apples, sugar, oats and butter star in a dessert that comes together very easily and is decadent, yet light and fresh.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 Pounds apples, peeled and sliced into ⅛ thick slices
  • ½ Cup flour
  • Cup sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • ¼ Teaspoon salt

Crisp Topping

  • 1 Cup old fashioned oats
  • ¾ Cup chopped walnuts
  • Cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¼ Cup sugar
  • Cup flour
  • ½ Tablespoon cinnamon
  • ¼ Teaspoon salt
  • 1 Stick butter, melted

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Peel and slice 3-4 pounds of apples. Slice the apple into ⅛ inch thick slices and add to a large mixing bowl. Add flour, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice and salt. Stir to combine well and add to a pan sprayed baking pan.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, add old fashioned oats, chopped walnuts, brown sugar, sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt. Melt a stick of a butter for about 30 seconds in the microwave and drizzle into the Crisp Topping dry ingredients while stirring until moistened through. Add the Crisp Topping generously over the top of the apples in the baking pan. Bake for 45 minutes. Allow to cool and serve with a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream.

Notes

  • If your apples need a little longer in the oven, cover baking pan loosely with aluminum foil so that the topping does not burn.
